European Coal and Steel Community ECSC
The first step toward the EU was taken in 1951 when Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands created the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). They agreed to share the production of coal and steel to reduce the chances of future wars.
