Lieutenant Colonel Waseem Amir

(GHQ Rawalpindi Attack – 10 October 2009)

Lieutenant Colonel Waseem Amir was an officer of the Pakistan Army who served in the Military Intelligence (MI).

On 10 October 2009, Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants attacked the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

At the time of the attack, Lieutenant Colonel Waseem Amir was present at the Military Intelligence (MI) office. He confronted the attackers while carrying out his duties. During the exchange of fire, he was critically wounded and was killed in the line of duty.

He graduated from the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) and was commissioned into the Pakistan Army, where he served in various professional assignments.

Following the attack, the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) launched Operation Janbaz, which lasted for approximately 18 hours. The operation resulted in the deaths of most of the attackers (TTP), the capture of one militant (Former Pakistan Army Doctor Usman), and the safe rescue of hostages.

Brigadier Anwar-ul-Haq (Anwar-ul-Haq Ramday) was a senior officer of the Pakistan Army who served as the Director of Military Intelligence (Security and Counter-Intelligence).

On 10 October 2009, during the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants’ attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, he carried out his duties under extremely difficult circumstances and was killed in the line of duty.

According to official reports, the armed attackers, disguised in military uniforms, entered the General Headquarters (GHQ), leading to a fierce exchange of fire between the attackers (TTP) and security forces. During the assault, several military personnel were killed or injured.
